The Sandy fire could become toxic and radioactive if it were to burn though one of California’s most toxic sites, the Santa Susana Field Lab. At this time (May 20, 9:45pm) the fire has not reached the lab due to the heroic efforts of the Ventura County Firefighters.
The Sandy Fire approaches the radioactive portion of the Santa Susana Field Lab, Area IV, on May 20, 2026 at 5:00pm.
