2019: NASA Can’t handle the truth

In the Fall of 2019 NASA announced their Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) was complete.

NASA’s oversized posters showed Option A (the 2010/AOC cleanup that would remove all contamination) and their preferred cleanup Option C (which would leave 80% of the contamination). NASA then had the audacity to claim that Option C was as safe as Option A, though they are at the opposite sides of the cleanup spectrum. Their statement defied logic.

Typically these meetings would be held in a large space with hundreds of chairs, a microphone, a screen for presentations, a moderator and a panel of people from the responsible party, in this case, NASA. Members of the public could then come and give a 2-3 minute comment, with the microphone, so that media, the public, and the panel could all hear, and in some cases, respond to the comment.

It’s a law that responsible parties must provide an opportunity for the public to give their feedback on their proposals.

At NASA’s meeting, in a small corner of the room, without a sign or microphone or screen, was a small table where the public could give their comment. There wasn’t a microphone and therefore those statements were not heard by the press and public.

When Dan Hirsch attempted to use a powerpoint for his comment during NASA’s meeting he was told to stop and was threatened to be arrested if he didn’t leave immediately. In his defense, Denise Duffield told NASA that this was our only opportunity to educate the public about the lies NASA was telling.

Dan Hirsch was escorted outside by the Simi Valley police, his powerpoint and screen removed from the meeting, and Dan was unable to give any public comment.
