Entry Form
Please include one entry form with each art submission, one per student. Artwork can’t be accepted without the completed form.

Quick Guidelines
Final artwork must be 8.5” x 11” on a flat surface.
All styles and genres are welcome.
Any flat art media can be used (colored pencils, paint, photography, collage, etc., including digital artwork). No AI of any kind accepted.
Artwork should depict the Los Angeles River area, which may include people, wildlife, recreation, and other elements. Please avoid using iconic images of the DTLA Bridge or DTLA skyline.
Mail artwork with an entry form, one per student. Do not fold artwork; please use an oversized envelope instead. Students are encouraged to share an envelope to prevent extra waste and conserve resources.

Official Rules and Contest Details
By entering, contestants (or their parent/guardian) agree to all Official Rules and confirm they are eligible. By submitting, participants and their parent/guardian release and agree to hold harmless Parents Against Santa Susana Field Lab (PASSFL) and its affiliates from any claims or liability arising from participation, including but not limited to negligence, injury, or copyright infringement.
Artwork Rules
Size and Mediums
Size: 8.5” x 11” on a flat substrate (paper, cardboard, canvas, etc).
Any flat art medium can be used (crayons, paint, markers, mixed media, pencil, photography, collage, digital artwork, etc.).
All styles and genres of art are welcome.
Artwork Content
Artwork must feature the Los Angeles (LA) River and relate to the theme, “Water Connects Us.” Please note that our event will be held in Canoga Park, a suburb of Los Angeles. Avoid portraying iconic Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) images such as the DTLA Bridge or DTLA skyline.
The artwork can include people, plants, wildlife, insects, recreation, and more, relating to the Los Angeles River.
No inappropriate, disparaging, hateful, or unlawful content will be accepted.
Originality
All artwork must be original and created by you.
The artwork can not be generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) or AI-altered in any way. If your artwork is suspected of being produced by AI, you may be asked to submit your digital file via email.
Submission must not have been previously published or awarded.
Copyright and Legal
Grant Rights
All participants grant PASSFL a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, display, publish, edit, and distribute the artwork in any media for educational or promotional purposes, without further notice or compensation. Artwork will become the property of PASSFL and may be used in print, online, video, merchandising, advertising, etc.
Legal
No purchase necessary to enter.
Contest open between August 1, 2025 and September 5, 2025.
Content open to students enrolled in a California private, public, charter, or homeschool; entering transitional kindergarten (T-K) through 12th grade for the 2025 - 2026 school year.
One entry per student allowed.
Prize
A single winner will be selected by meeting guidelines and for artistic quality and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The winner will also receive one of each piece of merchandise or marketing material that incorporates their artwork.
Winner will be notified by September 10, 2025 by email and/or phone.
Winner consents to the use of their name, grade, and likeness for promotional purposes without compensation.
Winner grants PASSFL a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, display, publish, edit, and distribute the artwork in any media for educational or promotional purposes, without further notice or compensation. Artwork will become the property of PASSFL and may be used in print, online, video, merchandising, advertising, etc.
Winner agrees that their artwork may be digitally altered or edited at our discretion, without prior approval of the artist, to be used for our event and marketing purposes. Efforts will be made to retain the artistic integrity of the work.
Winner’s artwork will be incorporated into PASSFL’s event marketing, merchandise, advertising, etc. without additional compensation.
In order to accept the $1,000 scholarship, the winner must have, or be willing to open a FREE ScholarShare 529 Account where the scholarship award money will be deposited.
ScholarShare 529 Eligibility: Any U.S. citizen or individual who is substantially present in the U.S. or who has a green card, with a valid Social Security number or taxpayer identification number. A person will still be considered to be an “Eligible Beneficiary” for purposes of this definition regardless of domicile (or where he or she is currently living), as long as such person still meets the legal requirements for being a U.S. citizen, for being substantially present in the U.S. or for holding a green card and has a valid Social Security number or taxpayer identification number.
Mailing Entry Rules:
Include a signed submission form with artwork.
Do not send matted or framed artwork.
Digital artwork must be printed and submitted. Emailed artwork will not be accepted.
Mail artwork in a large, flat envelope or rolled in a mailing tube. Do not fold artwork.
The participant is responsible for all shipping costs. Multiple students may submit artwork in a single, shared envelope or mailing tube. Include one entry form per student.
PASSFL does not take responsibility for any damaged or lost artwork.
All mailings must be postmarked by September 5, 2025 to be accepted.

Fine print: Void where prohibited by law. All entries must comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, including California regulations regarding contests involving minors. Derechos de Autor y Aspectos Legales
Cesión de Derechos
Todos los participantes otorgan a PASSFL una licencia no exclusiva y libre de regalías para usar, reproducir, mostrar, publicar, editar y distribuir la obra artística en cualquier medio con fines educativos o promocionales, sin necesidad de aviso adicional ni compensación.

El ganador otorga a PASSFL una licencia no exclusiva y libre de regalías para usar, reproducir, mostrar, publicar, editar y distribuir la obra en cualquier medio con fines educativos o promocionales, sin aviso adicional ni compensación. La obra será propiedad de PASSFL y podrá ser utilizada en impresión, internet, video, publicidad, productos promocionales, etc.

Reglas para Envío por Correo

No enviar obras enmarcadas ni montadas.
Las obras digitales deben imprimirse y enviarse físicamente. No se aceptarán por correo electrónico.
Enviar la obra en un sobre grande y plano, o enrollada dentro de un tubo de envío. No doblar la obra.
El participante es responsable de todos los gastos de envío.
Varios estudiantes pueden enviar sus obras en un solo sobre o tubo compartido, pero se debe incluir un formulario de inscripción por estudiante.
PASSFL no se hace responsable por obras dañadas o extraviadas.
