Ways to Give Through Wills and Trusts
Planning for the future is one of the most meaningful ways to care for your family, your community, and the world you leave behind. In addition to providing for your loved ones, your will or living trust can also include thoughtful charitable gifts that support long-term solutions — protecting future generations, public health, and the environment.
A planned gift can create a lasting legacy that helps PASSFL continue our work:
Protecting communities from long-term harm caused by contamination at the Santa Susana Field Lab
Supporting independent testing of air, water, and soil to safeguard public health and the ecosystem
Advancing regulatory and policy reform to better protect communities nationwide
Assisting other communities living near toxic or radioactive sites
Including a charitable gift in your will or living trust is often simple and flexible. A brief provision or amendment prepared by your attorney when creating or updating your estate plan is typically all that is required. These gifts are popular because they are easy to arrange and can be adjusted as your life circumstances change.
You may choose to:
Give a specific amount — Designate a fixed gift for general support or a specific program or need
Donate particular property — Such as real estate, stocks, or other valuable assets
Leave a percentage of your estate — A meaningful way to give while ensuring loved ones are provided for first
Give the remainder (residue) of your estate — After all other bequests to family and friends are fulfilled
Name a contingent gift — Provide support if other heirs are unable to receive their intended legacy
Charitable gifts made through a will or trust may also offer tax advantages. In many cases, there is no limit on amounts deductible from federal gift and estate taxes for charitable bequests, meaning no tax is due on assets given in this way. Your attorney or financial advisor can help determine the best option for your goals.
