lEast Bell’s Vireo
Least Bell’s Vireo (Vireo bellii pusillus) is a very small songbird that only grows up to 5” long.
Fun fact: Least Bell’s Vireo has never been observed drinking water. It is believed that the species gets all the water it needs from the food it eats!
Least Bell’s Vireo are endangered
The Least Bell’s Vireo species is endangered and is federally protected. They need extra help from humans to keep their population safe. Otherwise, their species could disappear forever.
One behavior that makes Least Bell’s Vireo vulnerable is the location of their nests. Because they build their nests only three feet above ground, they are easy prey for coyotes and house cats.

Least Bell’s Vireo have been observed on the Santa Susana Field Lab property and need our help to restore this habitat by removing the radioactive and carcinogenic chemical contamination that remains on the site.
Dangerous chemicals and radiation can hurt animals, birds and insects. That’s why we need Kids for the Cleanup to let everyone know- we need to fully remediate (cleanup) the Santa Susana Field Laboratory!
